Wine quality Control

In the heart of Lechkhumi lies a wine so rare, so unique that it can be described in just two words: extraordinary and unique. Meet Okusheshis Usakhelouri, a wine graced with a protected designation of origin (PDO) since 2022. Each sip tells a story – a story of a wine whose history spans centuries.

Through the highs and lows, the commitment to nurturing the Usakhelouri grape and mastering its winemaking never wavered. Thanks to Georgian resilience, this exquisite grape variety, on the brink of becoming a mere memory, thrived and made its way to the 21st century. The treasure should be guarded and the National Wine Agency – has taken the responsibility to oversee the process. As stewards of this cherished wine, they ensure adherence to Georgian legislation, safeguarding its unique identity.

Every bottle of Okureshis Usakhelouri tells the tale of a stringent process. Made exclusively from Usakhelouri grapes cultivated in the designated microzone, it's a wine that knows no compromises. As mandated, the wine undergoes alcohol fermentation of dregs, adhering to protocols set by Georgia’s Ordinance No. 524 of November 6, 2018. This document acts as a guidebook, ensuring only the finest, approved materials and practices were used for producing Okureshis Usakhelouri. The grapes' processing and Usakhelouri wine production must remain anchored within the region. While bottling can me done beyond regional borders, it must remain within Georgia's embrace.

In addition to the rigorous state regulations that ensure Usakhelouri's quality, winemakers are also turning to third-party endorsements to fortify their commitment to excellence. Only few winemakers have sought and attained bio-certifications from the European Union, showcasing their dedication to maintaining high-quality production standards. These certifications serve as an added assurance for consumers, reaffirming that when they choose Usakhelouri, they are not only getting a wine with a rich history but one that meets the highest international benchmarks of quality. This dual layer of verification – state regulations coupled with renowned third-party certifications – is a testament to the unwavering commitment of Georgian winemakers to their craft.
