Person behind Khomlis Usakhelouri

Behind every success lies the heart, soul, and vision of an individual. The significance of the person steering the helm cannot be overstated; they are the foundation upon which every idea is built. It's essential to recognize that each pioneering concept has roots that delve deep into the experiences, passions, and tenacity of these individuals. Their stories, often untold, are the lifelines that feed the brilliance of their creations.

Tamaz Omanadze, the driving force behind Khomli Marani, has masterfully crafted distinct wines from the Usakhelouri and Tsolikouri grape varieties, employing the age-old Qvevri wine-making technique.

Over a decade ago, the concept of crafting bio wine from the distinctive Usakhelouri grape variety took root. However, Tamaz Omanadze's passion for winemaking traces back to his early years. His grandfather, a respected deacon in the village of Makhura in Lechkhumi, was also a winemaker. It was those tender memories with his grandfather, immersed in the art of Kvevri wine-making, that kindled Tamaz's enduring love for Georgian viticulture.

From the early days of the process the vision to create bio wine with traditional Qvevri method was clear. With the support of the extended family in village Okureshi overs the years they managed to produce the bio certified grapes of Usakhelouri and Tsolikouri varieties. These high-quality yields eventually led to the production of bio-certified wines from the harvest.

It's noteworthy to mention that Mr. Tamaz successfully crafted a bio-certified semi-sweet wine from Usakhelouri grapes using the traditional Qvevri method, a feat that's challenging even with modern equipment.

Beyond his prowess as an adept winemaker, Mr. Tamaz stands as a staunch guardian of the Usakhelouri and Lechkhumi legacy. Through his relentless efforts and leadership, he was instrumental in founding the association dedicated to the protection of Usakhelouri wine and grapes. With joint effort of the members the organization successfully formulated, championed, and secured legal recognition for the microclimate zone of “Okureshis Usakhelouri” from national governing bodies. This landmark accomplishment lays the foundation for the safeguarding, enhancement, and perpetuation of the wine's quality and the cultural significance of the Usakhelouri grape variety.

Following heightened recognition among local wine enthusiast and governmental entities, Mr. Tamaz and his associate persistently strives to amplify global awareness of Usakhelouri. His goal is to ensure the enduring protection and preservation of both the grape and its rich cultural legacy.
