Okureshis Marani

Onise Ugrekhelidze, after years in Kutaisi, returned to his birthplace in Lechkhumi, particularly the village of Okureshi, with a vision to rejuvenate the vineyards. Starting with only 500 vines in the Samandario - a central location in the village of Okureshi, he steadily expanded his vineyard annually by adding 500 vines. Today, it boasts 8,000 vines. Each Usakhelouri vine yields around 800-900 grams of grapes, a productive result achieved through meticulous care. The vineyard it maintained with manual labour without machines by himself, family members and villagers.

His winery, "Okureshis Marani", is situated in the ancestral family home's yard. Onise exclusively uses stainless steel vessels for wine processing and storage. Crafting semi-sweet wine in such a setting poses challenges, but with his expertise and the right tools, he consistently produces his share of semi-sweet Usakhelouri wines annually.

Despite the challenges, the future looks promising for "Okuresh Winery". They are in the process of collaborating with investors to establish a specialized winery in the Usakhelouri microzone. This modern facility, complete with modern equipment, will further elevate their wine production, making the semi-sweet wine crafting process smoother and enabling expansion of their wine range.
