Khomli

Tamaz Omanadze, under the brand of Khomlis Marani, is pioneering the bottling of Lechkhumuri Qvevri wine. His passion for winemaking has roots in his grandfather's legacy, who was not only a deacon in the village of Makhura in Lechkhumi but also a skilled winemaker. It's this familial connection that fuels Tamaz's dedication to traditional winemaking.

Serjo Arjevanidze, a close relative of Tamaz, oversees the cultivation of quality grapes. The vineyard has 2,000 units of Usakhelouri vine variety and 1,500 units of Tsolikouri. The vineyards are meticulously maintained following organic principles, abstaining from pesticides or herbicides.

Tamaz himself helms the winemaking process, crafting globally recognized Usahekhouri and Tsolikouri wines. Even though producing a top-tier semi-sweet wine is challenging with contemporary methods, Tamaz successfully crafts it in a Qvevri, adhering to traditional Western Georgian techniques.

Quality is paramount for Tamaz. Recognizing that exceptional wine starts with exceptional grapes, he meticulously monitors climatic conditions — humidity, heat, and winds — to decide whether to produce the wine at that season or not. Some years, if conditions aren't right, he refrains from producing wine entirely. In favourable years, Khomli winery yields between 500 to 2,000 bottles.

Wine enthusiasts can find Khomli's wines at "8000 Mosavali" and "Gvini Gallery" stores. Notably, for international connoisseurs, Khomli wines are available in the UK through hedonism.co.uk.
